Course Image

The Course Image allows you select an image that will be used as the backdrop for the Course Banner.

This image is also used in other areas of Myplace, including on Course Cards that may be displayed on user dashboards.

Either drag and drop an appropriate image on to the control, or use the icon to open the file selector to upload one.

We recommend a landscape image at least 1024 pixels wide. The banner will focus on the “center” of the image, and scale it to fit the width of the banner.

We do not recommend including any textual elements in your course image.

Course Banner Settings

There are 4 settings relating to the Course Banner, 2 of these allow you set values that are displayed on the banner, the remaining options turn on or off extra behaviours.

Before going into the settings, it is important to look at what elements these settings affect.

Course Banner with annotated key elements

Each course banner comprises 4 main elements (these are identified in the Course Banner image):

a) Course Name - This is generated from the Course’s short name and fullname.

b) Container - This element is just a piece of text to represent an overarching organisational structure (e.g. Department or Faculty).

c) Programme Name - Typically this element can be used to locate the course within a “teaching” organisational unit, such as a programme, but it can be used in conjunction with the Container element to present Faculty and Department information.

The Container and Programme Name elements are optional, and will not appear if the corresponding settings are left blank.

Settings

  1. Display Course Banner - Check this box to display a course banner.

  2. Container - Any text entered here will appear in the Container location of the Course Banner.

  3. Programme Name - Any text entered here will appear in the Programme Name location of the Course Banner

  4. Hide Shortname - If checked, the displayed Course Name will not include the Course’s Short name value.

  5. Show Jump List - If checked a jumplist, that allows navigation between different sections / topics within the course site will be displayed immediately below the Course Banner.

Course Banners are cached for performance reasons, both in Myplace and in your web browser, so you may not see the changes immediately.

If you don’t you can normally press Shift and you web browser’s refresh button to do a fresh load from Myplace.

Jump List

The Jump List feature provides persistent navigation links below the course banner.

These links are automatically generated from the topic / section structure of the course site.

The behaviour of the Jump list is dependent on a number of key course settings.

Only sections that you can see are displayed. Students will not (generally) see hidden sections.

Jump List Settings

Most of these settings are found in the Course’s Settings page.

  1. Course Display

    1. Show all sections on one page - if selected the Jump list will used anchor links (e.g. Orientation)to scroll to the relevant section.

    2. Show one section per page - if set the Jump list navigate to and display a single section.
