University of Strathclyde
Use of Personal Response Systems for Assessment
Rationale
This was done to try to ensure greater engagement (including attendance) at lectures. 10% of the overall course marks were based on these assessments done at various times throughout the semester.
Successes
Attendance at lectures improved since students had no idea when they might have to answer questions using their PRS.
Engagement and interaction during lectures was better – students were more motivated to participate and ask questions throughout due to awareness that they may questioned on the topic.
Learning experience was enhanced.
Lessons Learnt
Needs to be prepared and have the software set up well in advance of the lecture!
Challenges
Main challenge is in making up questions which are suitable for use with the PRS.

Suggestions for Transferability
