With the Group Choice activity, you can choose any combination of groups from within the module.

...

Adding Groups from a Grouping

In the available Groups selector, Groupings are displayed as bold items, with an arrow on the left hand side.

...

Note

If you add a new group to the group it will no longer automatically be added into the choice activity. You must add the group manually if you create a new group.

Limiting Students Per Group

Once you have added Groups to the activity, you may use the Limit the number of responses allowed option to enable limits.

This will enable the General Limitation option that allows to set a limit to all groups at once.

Once enabled extra options will appear in the Groups section when a group is selected under the Selected Groups section.

The Limit For <group> option will appear below the selected group (it will display the relevant name of group), and you can set this value to limit the number of members.

Info

Different limits can be set for different groups.

Once you have set these, remember to either Save and return to class or Save and display.

When a student views the activity they will see a selection choice:

If a group has reached it’s limit it will be displayed as “(Full)”.

Note

Myplace is not a “high-contention” system (e.g. such as a ticket booking system), and it may be possible for group selection to result in overbooking.

Overfilling Groups

Whilst the Group Select activity will attempt to limit the membership to the specified limit it may overbook if requests are made very close to each other.

As a member of staff you can choose to have more than the limited number of students in the group.

The activity reflects the membership of the selected groups in the module site, so any users added to a group via the Participants or Groups managements will be reflected.

You can also use these pages to remove students from groups and add them to another group without the “student facing” limitations provided by the activity.
