This article will show you how to create a simple calculated question. This question allows you to enter a question which MyPlace will substitute in different values so that students get different questions. You then enter a formula for the answer. For more in depth instructions see here. |
1) Create a question by selecting the drop down for ‘question bank’ and then select ‘questions’
2) On the next page select the ‘create a new question’ button
3) Select 'calculated simple' from the list then click 'Add'
4) Select which category you want the question to be added to in the question bank
5) Enter a question name, this will not be shown to students but should help identify the question for you
6) Enter the question text, you will have to enter one 'wildcard' which is the placeholder that allows MyPlace to substitute in values for you. This is done by writing the wildcard inside {curly brackets}
7) Select the default mark (i.e. the maximum marks for this question)
8) Now enter the correct answer formula, using the wildcard(s) that you entered and any feedback necessary. You should also enter 100% if this is the correct answer. Decimal places and tolerance can also be set.
9) If you want to use units you can enter them here
10) Now click the 'Find the wilds...' button
11) The page will refresh and produce this next set of options, choose how many wildcards you want generated and click generate.
12) The page will refresh and you will be able to view the produced values. This will be the pool of questions the students will be asked.
13) Click save changes
14) You will then be displayed with your question and other questions in that category. You can click the magnifying glass icon to preview the question or the cog
to further edit it
