Accessibility toolkit known issues

This course has been scheduled for analysis

We are in the process of rescanning all Myplace classes and the process may take a few days. We are doing this to fix the errors incorrectly reported in the question bank.

The process started on Aug 20, 2025 .

Question bank errors

Using the Brickfield tool to fix issues identified within questions in the question bank doesn’t remove the issue from the Brickfield reports and it may reinstate a previous version of the question.

Please ignore errors reported for questions in the question bank until further notice.

As Moodle introduced a versioning system for questions in the question bank, question versions are not editable and when changes to a question are saved, a new version created. The Brickfield tool is currently reporting an error for each version of the question that contains the issue.

If the question is used in a live class and you are unable to wait, we recommend to update the question directly from the question bank and ensure your quiz is set to use the latest version of the question.

A new version of the Brickfield tool that fixes this issue should be available soon. We will update our recommendations as soon as we complete testing and are ready to release it to the live Myplace services.

New window links reported as a failures

To prevent the Brickfield tool from flagging links opening in a new tab (or window) as errors, the link text must contain the words “new window“ - i.e. link text (opens in a new window), link text (new window).

If you have configured your email links to open in a new window, you can also use the wording “email provider” - i.e. email@email.me (opens in your email provider).

Any other wording to indicate that a link opens in a new window will have the tool will flag that as a failure. We recommend for staff to use the recommended wording to promote consistency across the platform.

Non-descriptive link text for email links

The tool is currently flagging links to email addresses that use the email address as the link text as errors. While links should be descriptive, we recommend including the email address in the link text for better usability.

For emails, we recommend including the email address in the link text. For example: Contact support at help@strath.ac.uk.
Please make sure the value entered in the link url field for emails starts with mailto: (e.g. mailto:email@example.me).

If you have configured your email links to open in a new window, you can use the wording “email provider” - i.e. contact us at email@email.me (opens in your email provider).

Planet eStream Video embeds report they have non-perceivable text

This issue is due to a bug within the eStream functionality for the Moodle editors. The issue has been reported to the eStream developer and it has been fixed. However, as the content is saved in the database for the Myplace services, the only way to fix it is to re-insert the eStream content in the page. At the moment, only the eStream button for the Atto plugin is available, staff who wish to fix the issue will need to set the editor to Atto in their Preferences.

Accent Picker reports failure relating to “on-click” events

Please ignore errors that are caused by the accent picker used in quiz questions. Whilst most of the onclick errors reported by the Brickfield tool are valid, there seems to be an issue with the tool flagging onclick event issues when these are attached to <input type="button"> elements. We have reported the issue to the Brickfield team and are waiting for instructions or a fix in a future release.
