How the tool works
This page explains how the tool releases marks to students and which Moodle settings are involved.
How does the tool release marks?
The tool releases marks by changing the Grade item visibility and the visibility of the grade for each student.
For new activities, if the Grade item is visible, the tool will flag the marks as released until manually hidden by staff.
Any other settings that may have an impact in students being being able to see their marks are not changed by the tool and need to be in the right state to be able to release marks. These include:
Revealing identities
Grade category visibility
Activity visibility
Gradebook availability
Marking workflow
Marking workflow states do not have an impact on the ability to release marks using the tool.
There is currently an issue impacting marking workflow status. The tool doesn’t automatically make changes to the making workflow status when marks are released
Class mode
When releasing an entire class, the tool automatically makes the Grade item and the grades for each students visible.
If there are any restrictions applied to the activity, and not all students are able to see it, you will not be able to release marks by class.
User mode
When releasing single users, the tool automatically hides all grades, makes the Grade Item visible, and makes the individual grade visible for the selected users.
You will only be able to release marks for student that have access to the activity.
