How to troubleshoot grade visibility
You can use the “Release marks and feedback“ tool in Myplace to troubleshoot the visibility of marks and feedback after release. The tool also allows you to release marks and feedback to students.
Using the tool, you can check the visibility status for the entire class or drill down to a particular group or student.
Instructions
From your assignment page, follow the link to the “Release marks and feedback“ tool in the Administration panel under the the “Assignment administration menu“.
You can only access the tool if you have enough permissions to make changes to the grade visibility. Please speak to your line manager if you think you should be able to use the tool.
With the “Release marks and feedback“ tool you can:
Check the visibility at the activity level
By default, the tool will showing information and release status for the entire class.
If the marks have been released, the tool will display the date of release (if the date is available).
If the marks are visible at the activity level, the tool will display a list of all the checks that are passing under the “Are the marks ready for release?“ section.
Please continue to read for details for each item.
Grade item
If the tool displays a warning icon indicating that the grade item is hidden in the gradebook, it means that either the marks have not yet been released or that the grade item was hidden again after release. If all other checks are passing, you can go to the gradebook and make the item visible.
Course gradebook
If the tool shows a warning icon telling you that the gradebook is hidden, your students will only be able to see their grades in the activity submission page but not in the gradebook.
The gradebook visibility is set in the site settings and applies to the entire gradebook. Changing this setting will make the gradebook available to students and reveal all visible grade items.
Anonymous marking
If anonymous marking is enabled, it’s possible that identities for anonymous marking have not been revealed. In this case, the tool will prevent you from releasing any marks and accessing any other release type. Please follow the instructions displayed to lift anonymous marking.
Activity visibility
If the activity is hidden, students are not able to see their grade and feedback. In this case, the tool will prevent you from accessing any other release mode. Please follow the instructions provided to change the visibility of the activity.
Changing the visibility of an activity to hidden also sets the grade item to hidden.
Hidden grade category
If a grade category is hidden, all grade items within the category are also hidden to students. In this case, the tool will prevent you from accessing any other release type. Please follow the instructions provided to change the visibility of the grade category.
Changing the visibility of a grade category will impact all grade items within.
Check the visibility for a single student
Under the release and troubleshoot section, select “User”. The page will refresh and display the user release mode.
In user mode, the tool shows the list of all students. For each student listed, you can see their details and expand for more information about the state of the release.
To find a user, you can use the filters to select the first name and last name initials.
If the marks for the students have been released, the tool will display a “Released” badge and the date of release. Please note that the date of release is only available if the tool was used to release the marks.
You can then expand the user details by selecting “Show more” and view the list of visibility checks for the student.
Check the visibility for a group
Under the release and troubleshoot section, select “Group”. The page will refresh and display the group release mode.
Similarly to students, you can select “Group” to switch to group mode and view the list of groups. For each group, you can select “Show more” to expand the group and see the details of its members.
