Reason: Requires updating for Myplace 2016/17 and the new Estream Editor Buttons. |
Tip |
---|
The preferred way of uploading video files to Myplace is to 'add and embed' them via eStream, the Universities in-house streaming service. It's possible to do this directly from Myplace at the same time as uploading your file using just a few clicks. There are a few important advantages to embedding video this way:
|
Step by step guide
1) You can embed video in Myplace via the text editor. When you're in the text editor click on the 2nd icon from the right to add a media file.
Click on any image below to enlarge
2) This will open a pop-up window.
3) Click on the "Upload" button
4) A copyright disclaimer and upload form will appear. Ensure that you read this and make sure you agree with the statements. Then click 'Browse' to search for the video file on your PC.
5) Browse to your file and select it.
6) You'll now see the name of your file in the 'locate a media file' box in section 1.
In section 2, add a title and a description of your video which will appear on the embedded video player in your Myplace class.
In section 3, you can set your options to your preference. Here is a brief explanation of what those options are:
a. Who has Permission to View? Please select a Publishing Policy
i) ContentGlobal : Media accessible from any location = accessible from any internet connection
ii) ContentLocal2 : Media accessible from the local net = accessible only on Strathclyde University campus (not available on VPN)
b. Private or Public?
i) Public - This setting means everyone with an E-Stream login can view it (not general public)
ii) Private - This setting means only you can view it, however if you use an 'embed code' as you will if you embed it on Myplace, everyone who has access to that Myplace video will be able to see it. Use this setting if you want to restrict your audience to only those with access to your Myplace class.
c. Show the ERA Licencing Disclaimer?
i) Yes - a short video will play before your video with the ERA Licencing disclaimer. This is only relevant if your video is from film or TV. If you want to embed this kind of video please contact martin.laycock@strath.ac.uk for further advice.
ii) No - No Disclaimer will show.
Then click 'Upload file' to continue.
You may then see a progress bar as your video uploads.
Info |
---|
For reference a 48 MB file took about 2 minutes to upload. |
8) Then you will see another information pop-up, please note the message. After you upload your file it may takes some time to be made available for viewing on your Myplace class page. This is the time it takes to process the video to the format that eStream uses. The amount of time it takes will depend on the video size.
You don't have to wait to click OK, just click it straight away to continue.
9) You may see another pop-up telling you that the upload window will now close.
10) You will now find yourself back at the 'File Picker' window.
11) There will be a string of letters and numbers in the 'Search' box. This is the name E-Stream has given your file. Click 'Search' to continue.
12) If your video has finished processing you will see the video preview image appear. If it hasn't finished processing yet you will see a 'coming soon' screen, which is how it will appear in your Myplace class page until it's finished processing.
Either way click on the image and a new window will appear.
13) In this window, click 'Select this file' which will take you back to the 'Insert moodle media' window.
14) In this window, click 'Insert media' to continue.
15) You will now be back in the text editor where the embedded file will appear as a link with a different string of numbers and letters. If you want to add any other text or instructions, do this on a new line before or after the embedded video file.
The dialog will close and you should be returned to your editor, and there should be a placeholder displayed where you wish the video inserted.
When you're finished editing click 'Save and return to class'
1610) Finally your embedded video should appear like this (when fully processed). The grey square with the white arrowhead is the play button and the title and description you gave your video will appear in the rectangle next to the play button.
