This guide explains how students and staff access Pebblepad at Strathclyde.

Excerpt

Staff and student users at Strathclyde log in to Pebblepad through a link within a Myplace site.

To access Pebblepad at Strathclyde, staff and student users log in via a link in the Myplace class site for the programme or module that is making use of the tool.

Staff can create a link to the Pebblepad+ dashboard from any Myplace site. Each link is universal, meaning that any staff or student can log in to Pebblepad through any Pebblepad+ link created in a Myplace site that they have permission to access.

From their Pebblepad+ Dashboard, users can access their Pebblepad Asset Store and any Resources which have been released to them.

How to log in to the University of Strathclyde Pebblepad server:

  1. Log in to Myplace with your staff or student user name and password.

  2. Go to the Myplace site for the module or programme using Pebblepad. Your teacher or learning advisor will tell you if Pebblepad is being used in your programme or module.

  3. Click the link to the Pebblepad+ dashboard. An account will be created for you the first time you click the link. You can return to your Pebblepad dashboard via the same link at any time.

\uD83D\uDCD8 Instructions - for staff

How to add a link to the Pebblepad Dashboard in your Myplace class site:

  1. Login in to the Myplace class site through which you want students or staff to access Pebblepad.

  2. Select Add an Activity or Resource > External tool > Pebblepad+

  3. Give the activity a name which makes clear to students and/or staff that by clicking the link they will be accessing their portfolio or Pebblepad-based activity.

Note

You can also link directly to specific Resources within Pebblepad.  However this is not recommended for GADA programmes and should be used cautiously in other contexts.

  • Only the original author/owner of the resource is able to access/add links to specific resources.  This means that to add them, we have had to create separate Myplace logins/identities for the Programme Users for each GADA programme where we wanted to use this funtion.

  • Linking to specific resources requires an extra maintenance load because only Educational Technology staff, who have the admin ability to "login as" another user, are able to login as the Programme User in Myplace to edit the links.

Note

You can also link directly to ATLAS workspaces, but this is not usually used, as so far not much use has been made of functionality within ATLAS for students.
